Eight years ago, Magdalene Rose Bostian was born at 25 weeks gestation weighing 1 lb. 11 oz. She spent 92 days in the NICU. We rode an emotional roller coaster of fear and happiness. I still remember the doctors giving me the chances of her survival and I remember all the medical possibliities that could have resulted from her early birth. I remember how hard it was to stay strong for Maggie and my husband. Maggie taught me to BELIEVE; believe in faith, believe in miracles, and believe in the unconditional bond between a parent and their child.
At eight years of age, Maggie is healthy and active. She defied all the odds. We decided to do fundraising once again not only in honor of Maggie, but in honor of my niece Eliana who is also a NICU warrior. We are also remembering my nephew Jace who lived only 23 days. Maggie is asking that we raise money to remember Jace and all babies that spend time in the NICU.
Maggie is one of more than approximately 400 babies that come through GBMC's NICU each year. Help support the start of their lives at our 29th annual Father's Day 5K. With 12 rooms in the NICU, there is always equipment that needs updating, new technologies to incorporate and resources critical for these more fragile babies, who require 24/7 care. Your support can help us provide these resources.
