EVENT DATE: Jun 22, 2013
My good friend, Hansoo Lee, passed away this past March after a 15 month battle with lung cancer. He was 35 years old. This June I will run two marathons in memory of Hansoo, and I hope to raise some money for his fellowship in the process.
Hansoo was an impressive fellow. We met as freshmen in 1996 at Amherst where we pledged the same fraternity together. Hansoo was fun. Hansoo was kind. Hansoo was irreverent. Hansoo was mischievous. Hansoo was very smart. He had a spark about him that I will always remember.
After his Amherst days Hansoo attended Haas School of Business at Berkeley and co-founded a start-up company that provides online test-prep courses for students. This company, Magoosh, was his passion. Hansoo's time at Haas fostered his love of entrepreneurship and gave him the tools he needed to go out and build his own company. In memory of Hansoo, his family and closest friends began the Hansoo Lee Fellowship. This fellowship will provide Haas MBA students with a stipend and mentorship guidance, which will help them to forgo the traditional summer internship and pursue their entrepreneurial ventures full-time. Fellow recipients will receive:
1 - a summer stipend of $5 - $10K
2 - a mentorship from Haas alums focused on entrepreneurship
3 - office space
Please help me to honor the memory and spirit of a truly great person who left us way too soon. To learn more about the Fellowship please visit the website at:
(I will be running the Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on June 22nd, and the Pacific Crest Marathon on June 29th, in Sunriver Oregon.)
