EVENT DATE Nov 21, 2015

THE STORY:

Where We Are Today:

Last year, we asked for your help to build an expanded education laboratory for primary school learners in Johannesburg. With your generous contributions and support, we were able to build an education lab that includes two classrooms, a computer lab, a library and a playground that provides 47 students with educational programming in math, literacy, technology, and the arts.

On January 12, 2016,  we will open the doors to our first full-time school that will serve 80 primary school learners. But we need your help! Your donations for our 2016 phase 2 expansion will be directed to current building and development needs of our school site.

Our Ask:

  1. Run!- Join us on Saturday, November 21st at Prospect Park where we will complete the 5K run. We're asking each runner to raise $250 (ask 10 people for $25).
  2. Can't run? No worries. Donate! We're asking for all our friends and family to contribute $50 to support Streetlight Schools for the 2016 school year.

When: Saturday, November 21st at 12:00pm

Where: Prospect Park

(we will run along the Park Drive runners pathway- details on where to meet to come soon)

For any questions, reach out to Mohsen on 516-263-3378 or at mohsen.f.malik@gmail.com

With your help, we can change the future for a South African child. Please join us.

About Streetlight Schools:

Streetlight Schools is a South African non-profit kick-starting the next-generation schools’ revolution. South Africa has the worst-performing and most unequal education system of any newly industrialized country in the world. Halfway through schooling, more than half of South African learners are still not numerate or literate. The poorest communities, where we work, are affected the worst. With an innovative, cost-effective approach, Streetlight is re-imagining schools to bring exceptional primary education to the most underserved communities in the country.

Your contributions thus far have helped turn Streetlight Schools from an idea to a reality. We are so grateful to you for helping to create and support our committed team of educators and, most importantly, for providing our students with the quality education they deserve.

Not only will this be the first high-quality education facility in the area, but the work that Streetlight Schools has done in creating innovative, green, low-cost school building means that this approach can be used to build school buildings all over the country. We are also applying to be the first green star rated school in the country.
