According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2014), only 26% of individuals with disabilities are employed despite the fact that most of these individuals have valuable skills to offer and a strong desire to find work. Excel’s mission for this event is to partner with local organizations in order to advance equality for individuals with disabilities. Excel hopes that this event will help to raise awareness of the low employment rate for people with disabilities and inspire support for this cause. Excel’s programs provide education, transition support, training, assessment, job coaching, and job search support for people with disabilities in Oakland and Livingston Counties. The funds raised at this race will support these programs and the growth of an organization that has been assisting individuals with disabilities to participate in the community to their fullest potential for over 20 years. Support for Excel also benefits many other non-profit organizations in your community as Excel participants provide over 1,000 hours of volunteer services every month.
