The Washington Ice Dogs invite you to skate with them and take in a Special Hockey game this spring at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD. The event is being hosted by the Washington Ice Dogs and UCT Council 2002. With your help, we hope to raise $20,000 to support this outstanding Special Hockey program.
The goal of Special Hockey Washington is to give people with physical and developmental disabilities the chance to play the sport of ice hockey.
Our players come from all over Maryland, DC and Virgina, and all socioeconomic backgrounds. They pay a nominal fee (sometimes that's even waived) to play and then we give them all they need to get on the ice - helmets to skates to socks to jerseys. The cost to play ice hockey and travel to tournaments, where they can play against peers and make life-long connections, is often prohibitive for some of our players. Our goal is to help offset the cost so special ice hockey players can continue to be where they belong: on the ice.
Players on this team, elementary age to adults, play because they're accepted. This team is their family. Hockey is for everyone.
