The Rocky Mountain Flyathlon (www.flyathlon.com) represents a synthesis of three of the West's greatest leisure activities; trail running, fly-fishing, and craft beer. Like its close cousin, the triathlon, the premise is simple... Trail running to fly fishing, followed by recovery beer… The Flyathlon movement is picking up steam, and the event has been showcased in a number of publications, including the great fly fishing publication, The Drake… http://flyathlon.com/wp-content/uploads/Steve-Grace-Article.pdf The 2nd Annual Rocky Mountain Flyathlon will take place near Saguache, Colorado on August 15th, 2015. In conjunction with last year's event, we raised more than $6,500 for Colorado Trout Unlimited for coldwater conservation and education projects within the Saguache Creek watershed and around the state of Colorado. Projects funded (in part) with 2014 funds include re-routing a significant section of trail out of a flooded meadow, allow beavers the room to create additional trout habitat, as well as the development of a trailhead sign designed to educate visitors about the Rio Grande cutthroat trout. This year's event sold out in record time, and we will have 60 flyathletes again take to the woods near Saguache, Colorado to try to catch brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, and perhaps even the elusive Rio Grande cutthroat trout. This year's event will again raise money for Colorado's premiere coldwater conservation organization, Colorado Trout Unlimited (www.coloradotu.org). Please consider contributing to this campaign to help protect one of Colorado's finest resources, our coldwater rivers and streams. run. fish. beer. (and donate).
