Haywood Waterways will be hosting the "2nd Annual Polar Plunge Benefit for Kids in the Creek and Youth Education" on Saturday, February 1, 2014. It all begins at 11:30 am at the Lake Junaluska Assembly beach (by the pool). A free hot chili lunch will follow, "cook-off" style, meaning there will be competition. We’re seeking as many valiant souls as possible to brave the frigid waters of Lake Junaluska and help raise money for our premier education event, one that the teachers call “extremely valuable for teaching about water quality” and the students call “cool”.
I’ll save you the long details but we do have data that demonstrate Kids in the Creek is a very effective tool for bringing out environmentally-responsible behaviors in the kids.
Come join us just so you can say you plunged into Lake Junaluska in the middle of winter. All ages welcome, though kids should definitely get parent’s permission (they’re going to have to sign the liability waiver anyway). Shirt and shoes are mandatory, costumes are encouraged.
Cost is $25 and you can register by "Joining the Team" here on Crowdrise. It's free if you get your family and friends to sponsor you. You can also donate here without taking “the Plunge” (it’s actually a run into the water) or sponsor other Plungers. We are also seeking event sponsorship and we’ll do our best to promote your business in every way possible (contact us at 828-476-4667 or email@example.com for those details).
There will be lots of door prizes and great prizes for the top fundraiser and best costume. The chili lunch is free for everyone and all entrants will receive a free t-shirt to commemorate their plunge. The Assembly will have a bonfire going to help folks warm up as well as indoor changing and eating facilities. Since it is a Polar Plunge, the event will happen rain or shine!
