BENEFITING: Planting Peace
Like many of us, we sat on the morning of June 12th sad, confused and tearful after the tragic events that took place at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida during the night before. We couldn't understand or comprehend how something like this could happen, and we didn't want to believe it to be true. We also didn't want to just sit on the sidelines and think about what they could do, but rather do something to help the victims and families of the tragic event; therefore we are raising money towards Planting Peace. Planting Peace is a global nonprofit organization founded for the purpose of spreading peace in a hurting world. Their projects focus primarily on humanitarian aid and environmental initiatives, including our multi-national deworming campaign, Equality House LGBTQ rights advocacy, a network of orphanages and safe havens, and conservation effort in the rainforests of Peru. Planting Peace has created a "We Stand with Pulse" Victims Fund, which was developed to help with medicals bills and the funeral costs of the victims of this horrific event that left 50 dead and 53 injured.
So how are we going to do this, and who are we? Well Alycia and Farhad are two extremely passionate kids with a ton of passion. Passion for life, dogs, boys, NYC, pizza, etc.; however two of our biggest passions are:
- While we could do a marathon (in 10 hours!) or a spinning event, we thought we would push ourselves as master instructor / student team by taking on the challenge to do 30 classess of Barry's Bootcamp in 30 days. Barry's Bootcamp is what the Harvard Business Review calls as " The Hardest and Most Effective Workout in the World" and something we think that is going to test our limits but with a goal to raise money in wake of this tragedy, we know there is no giving up.
- The community aspect is so key. As LGBTQ members and supporters, and members of the Barry's community, we know that there is always power in numbers and we are proud to be part of these communities and have our friends and family join us on the way…
If you can and are willing to donate to this great cause, it would be extremely appreciated and immensely generous. Even a couple of dollars makes a difference!
