BENEFITING: Nechama-jewish Disaster Response
EVENT DATE: Sep 12, 2016
So, I'm turning 30 years old this year and, trust me, I have plenty of stuff. I really cannot emphasize enough how much STUFF I have. To commemorate the beginning of my thirties, I wanted to do something special and literally donate my birthday to help some others who need a little assistance. My hope is that if you were planning on buying me a gift of some kind, you reconsider and donate $30 (or whatever amount you feel like) to this campaign to help the victims of the recent floods in Southern Louisiana.
My own brief amount of time in Louisiana during my service in AmeriCorps showed me that the people of this region have endured more than their fair share of bad luck. In this most recent disaster, people from 40,000 homes have been displaced by the flood waters and by some estimates, only around 20% have flood insurance. So, let's help them out.
The money from my campaign will be going to a non-profit called NECHAMA, which specializes in disaster response and recovery. We had the good fortune to partner with them frequently in AmeriCorps and many of my friends have worked with them all across the country over the years. NECHAMA is already on the ground working in Baton Rouge and I want to support their work financially, which is 100% the best thing you can do to assist disaster victims...believe me. I encourage you to visit their website and learn more about their wonderful work.
So whether you were planning on getting me something for my birthday or you're just stumbling across this, consider pitching in a buck or two. You will be helping people out and bringing a smile to my old face at the same time!
