BENEFITING: Watoto Child Ministry, Inc.
This summer I have been given the INCREDIBLE opportunity to spend eight weeks in Kampala, Uganda working directly with orphaned and war-affected youth and babies. I've campaigned for these very children - former child soldiers and orphans of war - for the past four years in high school and at my university, and this summer will be the fruition of this work. Needless to say, I'm psyched!
I will be working with Watoto Ministries (Watoto means "Children" in Swahili), an organization which proudly devotes itself to upholding the "Watoto Model," a model for transforming the lives of children affected by conflict and neglect in Uganda. Their motto is simple: "Rescue, Raise, Rebuild." Through education, rehabilitation, and a whole lotta love, Watoto is equipping these children with the tools of leadership so that they may one day transform the nation. This is the Watoto model.
I am honored and grateful to be a part of this mission, and am equally grateful that I have received a scholarship from my university that will fund the eight weeks entirely.
However, after countless proposals and funding forms, I know that this trip is very costly. Round-trip airfare is over $3000 alone!
I am energized to serve, but the cost of my airfare is still unsettling to me, and has been on my mind for the past few weeks.
So, I've decided to try and raise at least $3000 to go directly to Watoto, even though the summer and airfare are already taken care of. It just feels weird for that much money - money that could do infinite good - to be spent on airfare. Right?
This is where I need your help! $3000 is a LOT of money to raise, but think of all the manpower we have concentrated here on Crowdrise alone! I am confident we can do it.
Keep on Crowd-rockin' my friends! Thanks!
