BENEFITING: PRINCETON IN ASIA
Every year, PiA sends 150 bright, talented, adventurous young people to live and serve in local communities in Asia, where they contribute to the work of over 80 partner organizations across 21 countries (from Kyrgyzstan to Sri Lanka, from East Timor to Japan), learn new languages (and re-learn how to cross the street!), get lost, laugh at themselves, and build friendships that last a lifetime.
It’s hard to sum up the experience of a lifetime in 140 characters, but when we do, we like to say that PiA offers “A change in perspective. A job that matters. A community for life.” This alumni “community for life” is 3000 strong and spans the globe. PiA alumni work in every industry under the sun, engage in their communities, and share the lessons and values they learned from their experiences on PiA with those around them, extending the impact of their PiA experience and converting their friends to a love of spice and som tam in the process. As diverse as the members of our alumni community are, they are bound together by the fact that no matter where they are, they positively engage in and contribute to their communities – local and global – throughout their lifetimes.
Our alumni are our superheroes, too. From recruiting applicants, interviewing candidates, and orienting fellows, to providing in-country support, post-fellowship mentorship and job opportunities, and contributing the lion’s (or tiger’s?) share of the financial resources that make it possible for PiA to continue its urgent and impactful work, their contributions are nothing short of Herculean. We couldn’t be more grateful for, or inspired by, our alumni community.
So as we prepare to send out our Class of 2016 and welcome the Class of 2015 back, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign to celebrate this wonderfully vibrant, generous and committed "community for life." Our goal is to raise $300,000 in honor of the 3000 alumni of PiA – $300k for 3000 – by the end of our fiscal year on June 30th.
In an incredible show of generosity, an anonymous donor, known only as a “Yalies for PiA,” has pledged $100,000, the Tiger Baron Foundation has pledged $50,000 and a group of PiA Trustees has joined together to pledge another $50,000 in matching funds towards this campaign. That means every dollar donated between now and June 30th will be matched 2-to-1, up to $100,000. Every dollar donated to PiA will go three times as far this month – kind of like it used to in Asia! Your $33.33 will become $100; your $333 will become $1000; your $3333 will become $10,000.
Now that this generous group of supporters has gotten us 2/3 of the way there, will you help us raise the final 1/3?
Help us raise $300k for 3000 and ensure that PiA can continue to offer these life-changing fellowships, which offer all participants a change in perspective, a job that matters, and a community for life.
