BENEFITING: EOD WARRIOR FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Mar 22, 2014
$30 by 30. Will you join me?
On March 22, 2014, Bryan Berky would have been 30 years old. He was just 12 days older than me, and throughout our 12 years of life together he never let me live those 12 days down. He loved to tease me about how he was older than me; that is, until the subject of turning 30 came up. I loved turning that joke around and reminding him he would turn 30 before me... neither of us ever thought that day might not come.
On September 12, 2009 at the young age of 25, Bryan, a USAF SSgt, gave his life for his country. A dedicated Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, Bryan was on his third deployment and was just a few weeks from returning home to his family: me, his parents, his brother, and especially his then-8-month-old baby boy, Harrison.
All who knew Bryan will never forget his passionate spirit, his huge smile, and his infectious laughter. He was a joker, a musician, the king of shenanigans. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving son, a great brother, a loyal friend, and a tremendous EOD tech. Bryan made a huge impact during his 25 years, and will live forever in the hearts of many.
While Bryan is likely to be remembered for his crazy stories, at the end of the day he believed in giving to the things that mattered. To commemorate his 30th birthday, I would love to honor Bryan's memory by giving back to one of those thing -- the EOD community that was such a big part of his life. The EOD Warrior Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that honors fallen EOD warriors and provides assistance to wounded EOD warriors and the families of wounded and fallen EOD personnel.
This fundraiser will be open until Bryan's 30th birthday on 3/22/14. 30 days, $30 from each of us, for a 30th birthday that would have been celebrated with the vigor only understood by EOD. Will you join me?
Happy birthday, Bryan!
