On August 6, 2011, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down by enemy fire in Afghanistan. This tragedy resulted in the deaths of 30 active duty military members and 1 military working dog, and left shocked and broken families in its wake. The event is considered the worst loss of life in a single incident during the Afghanistan Campaign.
To celebrate the incredible lives of these fallen heroes and support their families, join us for the inaugural Pleasant Grove, Utah event, starting on the morning of August 9th. We will be rucking throughout the day utilizing the Murdock Canal Trail – the "Ruck" will begin and end at the War Veteran's Memorial adjacent to the Pleasant Grove Cemetary.
31 Miles for 31 Heroes is a 31 mile "ruck" to honor the lives of the Heroes of Extortion 17. Participants will carry 2 bricks in their rucks, one to represent the lives of our fallen Brothers and the other to represent the burden carried by their families. Periodically, "Ruckers" will stop to read the bios of these Warriors and raise a drink (of water) to their memories. All funds raised will benefit The 31 Heroes Project, a non-profit organization which serves to impact the lives of our nation's heroes and their families; while remembering those who have made many sacrifices, and those who have paid the ultimate price in the service of our country to protect our freedoms.
