363 Days

THE STORY:

363 Days was established in the summer of 2007 to help Allen Law, a retired Minneapolis school teacher who made it his mission to feed 150+ homeless people in our community EVERY day of the year. These people are families, individuals, homeless men and women who are sheltered at Harbor Light Safe Bay as well as people who live totally outdoors.

Mr. Law started by going to local gas stations and convenience stores to collect any food items that were going to be discarded. A former student saw Mr. Law doing this, asked what he was doing and how he could he help.

With that simple question, 363 was established. Why 363? Each year, various organizations put together programs for 2 days: Thanksgiving and Christmas to help feed, clothe and take care of those less fortunate. An honest question, pondered by those who participate is: what happens the other 363 days?

363 was established with the other days in mind. Their starting goal is to help feed 150 homeless people in Minneapolis as many times a year as possible, with the ultimate goal of feeding these people every day of the year. It is easier than you might think. Six people can prepare the sandwiches in about 30 minutes. The total cost would be no more than $80-$90 total. That will feed 150 people in Minneapolis.

I have chosen the amount of $630 as that would be enough to provide 150 people with this service for one week. It seems like such an achievable number!
