BENEFITING: Back on My Feet
I have always used running as a tool to help better my own life. Now I want to use it to help benefit others. Here's the idea: I will be running an average of a 5k a day for an entire year (a total of 1,131 miles). 5k races are set up to raise funds for a specific cause. I am going to use that concept and spread it out over an entire year. During this time, I am going to be focusing on giving back to a community that has given me so much (Charleston). The primary charity I will be running for is one that provides hope and opportunity to homeless men and women living throughout the US. The Charity is called "Back on my Feet". Here's a quick snapshot of what they do:
"Back on My Feet uses running and community to motivate and support individuals every step of the way from homelessness to independence. Our success is measured not only by the health impact of miles run, but also by how many individuals obtain education, employment and housing. Homelessness isolates individuals from the norms of everyday life and leaves them distanced from the community support most people rely on daily. Through running, Back on My Feet brings an unparalleled community to homelessness services. A team of Back on My Feet runners is made up of individuals experiencing homelessness alongside teachers, lawyers, public servants, consultants and the list goes on. These runners become running partners and friends."
Not only will I be running (constantly) over the next year but I will also be volunteering my time for various organizations that I feel are making a positive impact on peoples lives.
Help me bring a little sunshine into someone’s life.
Thank you for your support!
