I am elated to run the Lincoln Half-Marathon this May while fundraising for Project Purple. When I first laced up my running shoes in 2007after almost 10 years from high school track; I was making a commitment to myself and my family to lead a healthier lifestyle. I was over weight, low energy, and at a standstill with making goals for myself. I began to run and it started to free my mind as well as help me gain strength, and build my self confidence. I can't imagine not having the means to have such an outlet and to improve my health. As I began to take better care of myself I signed up for 5K walks and then I began to walk/ jog, and now I run. I am a runner. Joining the running community I observed individuals running for a cause. My goal this year is to Run4Project Purple in support of families with pancreatic cancer. I would like to run in memory and honor of 13 families touched by pancreatic cancer. Will you join me in supporting these families and Project Purple? Project Purple is 501(c)(3) not for profit organization with a mission of raising awareness and funds towards a cure for pancreatic cancer. Our ultimate goal is to see a cure put us out of business in the next five years. Sadly the statistics are staggering. Pancreatic cancer is the 4th largest killer of all cancer killers and the least funded of the top 10 cancers. It is also the only cancer on the top 10 list with a single digit survival rate after 5 years. The funds raised through Project Purple have supported patients and their families with living, medical, and travel expenses, provide care bags containing blankets and hats for comfort during treatment. The Project also supports research efforts and offers a scholarship to individuals who have been touched by pancreatic cancer. I along with Run4ProjectPurple appreciate your time and support.
