On January 6, 2014 my sister, Elinor Scott, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer at the age of 50. Even though she had been struggling with her health for 2 years, she continued to run marathons and qualify for Boston so this diagnosis was completely unexpected. Elinor fought courageously for 8 months before she died on September 12, 2014. As we went through that horrible journey it became clear that there is very little hope for the majority of pancreatic cancer patients. There are very few options for treatment. And gettting on a clinical trial is extremely difficult due to the strict criteria.
Project Purple has become a family to me since Elinor's death. This gives me an outlet to honor my sister and her passion for running, as well as continue the fight against pancreatic cancer.
