So much going through my mind all at one time. I can do this. I can do this... I can do this? Yes - I can do this.
I can't do this alone. No one can. I need you. Each and every one of you. Please do this with me!
I know you can't be with me during each and every training run (Mark and the kids are happy they aren't!). I know you can't be with me when the big day arrives on Sunday, May 1st, and I'm out on the course of the Lincoln Half Marathon feeling like I'm going to toss my cookies. But you are with me in my hopes and prayers to make a difference. To help support the fight against Pancreatic Cancer and make the future so much brighter for those battling with it.
We've lost loved ones and we know those who are in the fight. Please contribute to my Project Purple fundraising and together we can help! Back when it was announced in 2015 the recipient of fundraising for the Lincoln marathon would be Project Purple, I knew I had to be a part of it and honor my Granddad Dale and together we raised $565! And now I'm so happy to announce that the team is back together again in 2016 and I want to double that total!!
Pancreatic Cancer is now up to the THIRD largest killer of all cancer killers and the least funded of the top ten cancers. It is also the only cancer in the top ten killer with a single digit survival rate after five years. Less than 6% of all people diagnosed will live 5 years. While there is no early detection method and NO CURE, Project Purple is working hard to change these statistics and I'm looking for your help to support their relentless dedication.
RESEARCH: In the last four years, the charity has provided $500K in grants to top medical centers specializing in the study of pancreatic cancer. They have carefully selected institutions based on the quality of their work and their researchers. Recipients include Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center, University of Nebraska Medical Center, NYU, and Columbia. Grants have also been awarded to postdoctoral students and professional researchers, to support studies in early detection methods, a cure, and a better understanding of the mysterious and deadly disease.
PATIENT FINANCIAL AID: Project Purple helps support families and individuals dealing with the financial burden of pancreatic cancer. Patients who are currently battling are given support with medical bills, living expenses, and travel. They also give care packages to patients to provide comfort during hospital visits.
SCHOLARSHIPS: For the past three years, Project Purple has helped undergraduate, graduate, and nursing students achieve their academic goals by providing scholarships. These awards are given to bright, passionate students whose lives have been adversely affected by pancreatic cancer. Many have lost parents or other close relatives to the disease, other had the disease themselves.
I need your help today, there's less than a month to go before the big day!
Please go online and take a moment to make a donation to this amazing project! Help contribute to all the good they help to accomplish for its patients and for researchers trying to find a cure. This program and all its benefits mean so much, please take a minute now to hop onto my fundraising page and make a tax-deductible donation. Think how many can be helped with $30, $40, $50, or like our family - a Committee Approved $100 to help make a difference!!
But please, don't stop at the donation. If you know of someone affected, please share the mission of Project Purple. Let them know of the support system in place to help them! For more information about these programs and what you can do to help support the mission, visit online at www.run4projectpurple.org. Also find Project Purple on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Thank you for your time and support to help those in need and honor our loved ones.
All our love,
Kacey, Mark, Lilly, and Reid
