On September 1, 2012 along with my cousin Elli Zadina I ran my first half marathon in Grand Island, NE! My Aunt Sharon (Elli's mom), along with our families, cheered us along the entire 13.1 miles. It was an amazing experience!
On October 31, 2012 our lives changed forever. Only two months after she cheered us across the finish line, Sharon was told she was told that she most likely had pancreatic cancer that had metastasized to her liver and duodenum. This diagnosis rocked our family's world and turned it upside down. She fought an amazing fight- one filled with faith, prayers and most of all courage! Our family cherished her last months but the disease took her beautiful soul from us on April 6, 2013.
I have been lucky enough to run the Lincoln Half Marathon for Project Purple the last two years but this year I will cherish this race a little bit more. This last fall my Uncle Gary, Sharon's husband, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As you can imagine, our family was in complete shock. This race is for my Uncle Gary and his faith filled battle with pancreatic cancer. #Run4Gary #WeAreProjectPurple
Project Purple is an non-profit that is close to my heart for so many reason. PP offers a scholarship program to children and grandchildren who have lost loved ones to pancreatic cancer, help families pay necessary bills and they help fund research to help find tests for early detection and most importantly a cure!
There is no test that detects pancreatic cancer and there is no cure. Help me reach my goal of raising $5,000 this year in honor of my Uncle Gary for Project Purple!
