BENEFITING: Gift of Life Family House
ORGANIZER: Mary Pat
EVENT DATE: Nov 29, 2016
Mary Pat Kessler wrote -On Thanksgiving of 1990, my first child, John “JJ” Jr., was diagnosed with Hurlers Syndrome, a rare disease that causes an enzyme deficiency and can lead to organ damage. There is no cure for this disease – the only way to arrest it was with a bone marrow transplant. Our family had to move from Washington, D.C. to Lexington, Kentucky so JJ could receive a life-saving transplant and we could be with him for the 5 months he was in the hospital. JJ successfully engrafted his new marrow, however he suffered a heart attack post-transplant. JJ was not even 2 years old at the time of his death. Throughout this difficult time, our family wished we had a place like the Family House so we didn’t have to rent an apartment so far away from home. Please join me in the 40 Hours for the Family House Challenge this #GivingTuesday, November 29th, to help raise money for families who need the Family House while their loved one is awaiting a transplant. I am participating in memory of two people I love and miss very much – John Jr. and my father, Tom Feeney, who passed away this summer.
