Project Purple is the official charity of the Lincoln Marathon that will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2017. This is a non-profit organization with a goal to raise awareness and funding towards a cure for pancreatic cancer.
This will be my 2nd time running with their team. For those who know me know that this is very personal to me, as I lost my grandmother 4 years ago to pancreatic cancer. Most of you may also know that my best friend, Lindsey Cullinane, has also been impacted by this terrible disease. Lindsey lost her father 5 years ago to pancreatic cancer however his story is very different than my grandmother’s.
Unlike my grandmother who was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer that she fought for 5 years, Steve was admitted to the hospital December 4, 2011, diagnosed December 6, 2011 and passed away surrounded by his beloved daughter and son in-law on December 12, 2011. To say those few days where a whirlwind would be a drastic understatement. Steve managed to handle his diagnosis all the way to the end in the fashion in which he lived his life, with a party! #djheavysteve
For 9 days we turned the hospital visitation room into a 24 hour space filled with family, friends, and food constantly flowing (amongst other things)! Everyone that knew Steve, knows that he was the life of the party and lived for his daughter. I am beyond proud to say that I am running in his honor this year.
This year my goal is to personally raise $500 and I have no doubt with the support of my family and friends that I can reach this goal. I hope that you will consider donating to this incredible organization.
