THE STORY:

JANUARY 18 2016 UPDATE:

Did you catch our Cutch news?

This morning, we were at KDKA’s Pittsburgh Today Live and we shared some wonderful news: baseball great and Pittsburgh’s pride, Andrew McCutchen, has generously donated a truck to 412 Food Rescue!

We are so humbled and grateful. Mr. McCutchen’s support, along with your support during our Crowdrise campaign not only allows us to get a truck but also the funds to actually operate it. Your generous donation can now go to registration, insurance, putting solar panels to help us save energy, hire a driver and pay for gas and maintenance costs. It also pays for other expenses that may be required, such as retrofitting the truck and wrapping it.

All this generosity combined makes our truck a true reality.

Again, thank you! We are humbled to have all your support in this mission to end waste and hunger in Allegheny County. Last year, we took the first steps toward this goal and this year, we will make big strides. All because of you.

LOVE,

The 412 Food Rescue Team

PS. We also want to take this opportunity to let you know that if you donated solely for the purpose of purchasing the actual truck and would like to have your donation back, we will gladly accommodate (although we hope that you will allow us to redirect it to operating the truck—an equally important need.)

DECEMBER 30 UPDATE: GOAL!!! THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DONATED, SHARED AND CHEERED US ON!!! WE LOOK FORWARD TO AN AMAZING, IMPACTFUL 2016!!!

412 Food Rescue was founded to respond to a simple, yet unacceptable disconnect: the fact that almost half the food we produce goes to waste while many of us go hungry.

In Allegheny County, that is over 176,000 people--over 45,000 of whom are children.

1 in 5 families are food insecure--they do not know where their next meal is coming from.

Since March, 412 Food Rescue has rescued approximately 150,000 pounds of food--perfectly good fruits, vegetables, bread and milk--healthy, nutritious food that many of those in need often have no access to.

This has been--and continues to be possible--through the work of people like you. Volunteers who respond to our calls for drivers to transport food from donors to nonprofits that feed the hungry. Volunteers like you fill your bikes and cars with cases of produce and YOU deliver directly to organizations--you see the impact of your work.

And yet we have more opportunity to pick up LARGER donations--pallets full of food. We currently have one truck that a volunteer has donated but we need another to ensure that we cover ALL OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY.

Our goal is to rescue 2,000,000 pounds of food in the next three years--and provide over 1.5 million healthy meals.

Let us make sure that perfectly good, healthy food goes to those in need. Not landfills.
