There is nothing cheap about building homes. On average, HFHWFC needs $110,000 to build a safe, decent affordable home, and close to half of that is spent on land, government fees and development costs before we even start building!
This is why donors are so essential to the work we do. Our volunteers cannot raise walls and build homes without contributions of building products and services and cash donations from the thousands of corporate, individual and community donors who partner with us. Every donor, every dollar matters. And, because families repay donor dollars through their mortgages, donor dollars are continually being recycled to build more homes to transform futures for more families.
As part of HFHWFC’s revitalization of Winchester's historic North End, volunteers are about to begin a total "gut rehab" on a distinctive West Lane home. This rehab will become the first Norris Village (formerly known as City Lights) rental unit to transition into a high quality, Earthcraft-certified, owner-occupied home.
Elizabeth, the future homebuyer, fell in love with the cottage's aesthetic, and is eager to work alongside the community as we transform this house into a home for her, her teenage daughter Ashlyn and her son Devin.
HFHWFC has designated $10,000 to this build from our general construction funds, to help get us jumpstarted but this is only a fraction of the $60,000 needed to complete this project. Let's see if the local community can match the $15,000 riased in funds and through gifts provided as in-kind donations.
You are the key that helps us unlock the potential in neglected neighborhoods as they are brought back to life. You can make the dream of homeownership a reality for families who could otherwise never afford their own home. When you give your time and support to HFHWFC, you are engaging in a powerful grassroots effort to ensure your community thrives.
