Moving Forward with MUNTU…Celebrating 45 Years of Excellence in Authentic African Dance in Chicago!
The 2017-2018 Season marks the 45th anniversary of Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago--making it the oldest, continuously operating, and foremost respected African Dance company.
From our founding in 1972 by Alyo Tolbert to present day, Muntu has produced and presented thousands performances, dazzled over 350,000 audience members, educated and empowered nearly 50,000 students throughout Chicago, across the country and abroad. Staying true to our core values—Authenticity, Service, and Quality—Muntu continues to share “the essence of the human spirit” in every concert, classroom, and conversation to celebrate the unique contributions of the African diaspora and our shared human stories. As we embark upon this celebratory year, we invite you to partner with us in a few intentional ways:

Share your favorite “Memory of Muntu” We would love to hear how Muntu Dance Theatre has impacted your life and your favorite concerts, choreography, or important events that we have been able to share with you throughout the years.
