As the UN announced indicators yesterday that the spread of famine in Somalia now directly impacts 4 million people and 750,000 face imminent death, reports from the ground are that aid may come to late for millions of East Africans.

#48forEastAfrica launches Phase 2 to raise $100,000 to support the work of Oxfam in East Africa, whose workers are on the frontlines addressing this massive humanitarian crisis

Last month, Daily Kos,, Oxfam International, WiserEarth, tcktcktck, DeSmogBlog, MIT Climate CoLab, BPI Campus, Climate Change: The Next Generation,, Cool HIVE, MedicMobile, and The Enough Project participated in two days of action to raise awarness and funds for the Food Crisis in the Horn of Africa.

(See Oxfam’s report , Sophie’s World , and follow the project from its inception to current reports @ Daily Kos .

The “first 48″ raised over $7100 for Oxfam’s work in East Africa and $7500 for Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

A 48forEastAfrica2 action later this month will engage international organizations, experts in the fields of climate science and sustainable agriculture, environmental bloggers and writers, and social media mavens in a worldwide effort to energize citizens of the world to pool our resources and tackle this unparallelled disaster.

Remember to add $.01 to your donation so it ends up being $5.01, $20.01, $50.01, $100.01, and so on.  This will enable Oxfam to keep track of all #48forEastAfrica.
