THE STORY:

tl;dr = This is a great cause. Donate money to the right and I'll shower you with thanks in public or private; your call.

Hello and thanks for coming!

I'm hiking Mt. Shasta to help raise money for foster youth advocacy. This is my first time doing any sort of charity fundraiser and I'm excited about helping foster youth advocacy. Check out the details below and please donate whatever you can to help. Every bit helps improve the lives of children who are dependent on the bureaucracy of the state and need their voices heard. If you know someone or an organization who might be interested in a larger sponsorship, please let me know. Thank you.

Hugs and love,

Dave

PS: People involved with the cause have written some great pieces about it. Check them out here, here and here

Here are the details from California Youth Connections:

On the weekend of June 17th-June 21th, 2015, 20 intrepid climbers will brave Mt. Shasta to support California’s foster youth!

There are approximately 12 million Americans who have experienced foster care in America, with over 400,000 children in the system today. While the story we so often hear is laced with the hardship these children and adults have to endure, there is another -- wholly different – story: one etched in resilience and strength.

The California Youth Connection (CYC), a youth-run and led legislative advocacy organization, is composed of hundreds of current and former foster youth who are the embodiment of that inspirational story. Since CYC was founded in 1988, it has grown into powerful political force, not only bending the arc of California’s public policy around foster care, but also empowering thousands of youth to speak directly to power. The example set by CYC and its young leaders has inspired as many as 106 youth-driven advocacy groups across the nation.

Fostering Media Connections (FMC) is a non-profit organization that harnesses the power of journalism and media to improve the foster care system. Over the years the stories shared by CYC-youth have become a cornerstone of the foster care narrative that FMC is writing.

Together, CYC and FMC are helping to give foster youth a platform to make their voices heard.

Please support our core work as we lead a group of 20 climbers (including 8 foster youth) up 14,179-foot Mt. Shasta.

We have set up this account through crowdrise so that anyone interested in the climb can donate to support CYC and FMC’s advocacy and youth empowerment work.

If you are interested in joining us on the climb, you can reach out to Heather Matheson (outreach@fosteringmediaconnections.org) who went up with us last year, is coming back and is leading the organization of this latest Foster Youth Questival to the top of Mt. Shasta. Please be aware that all climbers must raise a minimum of $2,500.00 to go.

In addition to joining us for the climb, you can support CYC and FMC by sponsoring or donating to the cause.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact Heather Matheson at (415) 637-9959 or Tish Slater of CYC at (415) 442-5060.

Thank you for your support,

Daniel Heimpel
