BENEFITING: The Empowerment Plan

EVENT DATE: Mar 24, 2017

Alana Morning

THE STORY:

Hello Sacramento! Our organization, The Servants Ministries, is a Sacramento non-profit committed to providing humanitarian and spiritual support to those in the Sacramento area. We believe in following Jesus’ greatest commandments, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:37-40)

Every Sunday we reach out to the homeless communities in downtown Sacramento extending love through distribution of food, water, clothing, and blankets. As you may have noticed, this past winter was one of the coldest that has hit Sacramento in a long time. Those affected the most by the chilling winter were also those left in the worst conditions: our homeless brothers and sisters. This coming winter 2017 we at the Servants Ministries want to change that by providing the Empowerment Plan Coat, a multifunctional coat that functions as a water-resistant coat, sleeping bag and backpack. This coat is made from durable Cordura fabric from Carhartt, upcycled automotive insulation from General Motors, and materials from other donors. This innovative coat is provided by the Empowerment Plan, a Detroit based non-profit that employs homeless single parents to make coats for homeless individuals in the United States and Canada. Through training and full-time employment, the Empowerment Plan has seen 34 employees transition out of homelessness into stable housing for themselves and their families since 2012.

To bring this incredible coat to Sacramento we need your help. Our goal is to bring 50 of these coats to Sacramento by December before the winter storms come. Each coat costs $100 to cover the costs for materials, labor, and overhead expenses. You are not required to donate $100; by giving whatever you have, you bring one more person closer to the Empowerment Plan Coat. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to the Empowerment Plan. You may donate at any time as many times as you desire between April and November of 2017. We sincerely hope that you partner with us to empower our fellow Sacramentans toward a better life off the streets. For more information on the Empowerment Plan visit www.empowermentplan.org. For more information on the Servants Ministries, please visit www.servantsministries.com/ and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/theservantsministries. Thank you again and God bless!
