EVENT DATE May 19, 2015

As some of you may know, I was enroute to Nepal to trek Everest base camp. About a week or so before my scheduled departure , I acquired a horrible ear infection in both ears, and I was told the eardrums would burst if I took my flight. I delayed my plans to wait for the infection to pass, then the tragedy struck Nepal. It has been a painful experience for us all around the world: those of whom have missing friends and loved ones, those who have people we know who have passed away or were injured, and those who wish to do something but feel helpless.

The impacts of this 7.9 earthquake and the aftershocks have been devestating to not just the people and their architecture , but it's effected so much more. Places that bonded both tourism and cultural tradition, have been destroyed. Immediate rescue efforts are underway and the estimated death toll continues to rise. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed. Rotary will use the money donated to assist first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter.

Here are two links to some very informative and inspirational videos/article about Nepal before and after the tragedy.

I have multiple friends on the ground working with Shelter Box and Water Box partnered with Rotary International. I have done hours of research and I believe Rotary is the best organization and will manage the funds appropriately. I have contacted the president of the Kathmandu Rotary chapter, and he has sent me an email response with all necessary bank account routing information.. All donations to this fund will exclusively support relief and recovery efforts in Nepal.

Link to their information:

One of my Nepalise friends says the following ,"If you want to be sure your money is not mismanaged then I suggest you give it to Rotary Club whose influence here is incredible."

Another friend of mine, " I am not so sure people realize how much we have been impacted. The news shows one side, but they don't show people crying and our dead loved ones. The only thing that will help is financial aid to rebuild, to eat, and to drink water. People and clothing coming half way across the world doesn't help because we have no where to house them. Clothing can't help if the people don't make it through the week. The country is overloaded."

I wanted to start a fundraiser to make it easier for people who already haven't done so , to make a donation of any amount, anonymously or in your name, to the Rotary International Kathmandu chapter. This way only one international wire transfer needs to be paid for each donation. I have pledged to start a fundraiser with a goal of 5000, and will spend the next two weeks locating a donor who will match the amount I raise up to that amount.

For those who feel more comfortable directly transferring the money, here is the bank account information:

A disaster relief fund has been established in Nepal by District 3292. Here are the bank details for Rotarians who would like to make a donation:

Name of the Bank: NMB Bank Ltd, Nepal
Account Holder: RI District 3292 Disaster Relief Fund
Account Number: 00100005455A
Swift Code : NMBBNPKA

Once the goal is met or after two weeks, I will donate the funds and post a photo to facebook of the transferred amount.

Any amount, whether it is five dollars or one hundred, will help. Please take the time to donate and help part of our world in its attempt to recover .

Thank you!
