BENEFITING: OCEAN CURE INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 11, 2012
In 50 days, on October 11th, I am turning 50. This is a milestone for most, but a particularly poignant one for me. My mother, who had MS, passed away a month after her 50th birthday. This fundraiser is both a celebration of life & a way to pay it forward to a most deserving charity, Ocean Cure.
“The weight of the world”, a saying that has many meanings, but for people with neurological & physical challenges, this holds true in many ways. Can you imagine how that must be? Most of us know how wonderful it feels to be at the beach. In the ocean water, you feel a sense of peace & weightlessness. For someone with disabilities, it is a freeing experience. I have personally seen it with my daughter, who has her own set of challenges. The ocean is the perfect place for healing.
Ocean Cure offers free surf camps to medically fragile & at risk kids & adults. Their campers come from a broad range of challenges & they even offer camps for the men & women from the Wounded Warrior Project & Little Pink Houses of Hope. Their instructors are highly qualified & nurture a feeling of self-confidence & ability that the campers take with them far beyond the beach.
Please take a look at Ocean Cure www.oceancureinc.com & support my fundraising efforts. The donation you give will go towards the special equipment (adapted surfboards $551 each, beach wheel chairs $3,379 each, shade tents $695 each) needed to ensure that their surf camps run smoothly & benefit as many kids & adults as possible.
Thank you so much!
