BENEFITING: CATHERINE PEACHEY FUND INC
Mileage Tracker: 673
Hi, my name is Patrick Heine, and I'm running The North Face GORE-TEX 50 Mile on May 3rd. I am running to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research, and for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tissue Bank at the IU Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis IN. My family has been really involved with this unique research center so it is a cause that is very close to me.
The Komen Tissue Bank, which is part of the Indiana University School of Medicine,
is the only place in the world that collects and distributes healthy breast tissue for
research. But the bank is much more than a clearinghouse. It represents real hope.
The Komen Tissue Bank is allowing researchers, for the first time ever, to compare
healthy breast cells to ones that have become cancerous. By investigating how the
transformation occurs, we hope to glean valuable information that can be used to
prevent breast cancer.
The bank also gives women the chance to battle back against a disease that often
leaves them feeling vulnerable and helpless. And they are seizing the opportunity!
Since its founding in 2007, more than 3,000 women without cancer have literally given a piece of themselves. These precious samples are shared with researchers from around the world.
All of the money donated will go to the Catherine Peachey Fund, which helps fund the research efforts at the Komen Tissue Bank. Thanks for your donations! Every little bit makes a difference!
