BENEFITING: COLLEGE VISIONS
EVENT DATE: Sep 21, 2014
Thanks to all of you who have donated to honor Kolajo! Because of you we have now raised more than $6,000. Because we reached (and surpassed!) our goal of $5,000, the College Visions board will contribute an additional $2,500 in matching funds. You can still give, and your donation will support talented low-income and first generation college students as they SUCCEED in college. Thank you!
Thanks to your generosity, we hit our original goal and raised $3,000 for the Kolajo Paul Afolabi College Success Program! Now, inspired by you, the CV Board has issued a challenge grant to help us reach 4 more scholars in Kolajo's honor. If we can work together to raise an additional $2,000, the CV board will give $2,500 in Kolajo's name. I know that we can make this happen!
Thank you again to everyone who has donated, and to all of you who will run with us on Sunday!
Welcome to the 2nd Annual 5K for Kolajo! On this third anniversary of Kolajo's death, September 21st, we are hosting a virtual 5K. All of the proceeds from this 5K will benefit the Kolajo Paul Afolabi College Success Program.
We decided to honor Kolajo's life and memory with a virtual 5K that benefits College Visions because there is no better way to keep his spirit alive than to participate together in an activity that was one of his greatest joys in life and also contribute to a cause that he was so passionate about.
Our goal is to get 100 people to run/walk in Kolajo's honor and give $30 each so that we can fully fund ten scholarships to the Kolajo Paul Afolabi College Success Program.
How to participate
This is a "virtual" 5K, so run or walk wherever you are, whenever you want on September 21st. We encourage you to bring friends and family along and wear your favorite Kolajo-inspired running gear (e.g. booty shorts, knee socks, sweatbands, general fabulousness)!

Kolajo Paul Afolabi College Success Program
Founded in 2004, CV served 10 high school students in its first class. In 2014, our 10th Anniversary year, we have grown to serve 325 students. In 2014, we celebrated 140 college graduates from schools including: Bentley, Brandeis, Brown, Clark, Connecticut College, CCRI, Florida International, Goucher, Guilford, Holy Cross, McDaniel, Mount Holyoke, Northeastern, Providence, RIC, Smith, Union, URI, U Rochester, and Wabash.
In 2009, CV launched the Kolajo Paul Afolabi College Success Program (CSP) in order to raise college graduation rates by providing students with support through college. Nationally only 11% of low-income, first-generation students graduate from college within 6 years. In contrast, 89% of CV college students return for a 2nd year of college, and 57% of CV college students graduate within 6 years. Those impressive numbers mean that CV students are achieving their dreams, supporting their families, and growing Rhode Island's battered economy.
