Hi! We are a group of four fifth grade boys (with support from our parents). We don't sound like much of a charity, but one of our goals is to help end illiteracy all over the world. We live in fairly prosperous families and have access to all kinds of books. We have become aware that many kids in our city lack access to books of any kind. Our current goal is to change that. We want to first help to end illiteracy in our community and maybe even the world by providing illiterate kids with literature they will love to read. This will inspire them to want more books and make them want to provide literature to other kids in need. This will spark an interest in many of the children to continue reading. If this is not compelling enough here are a few facts about illiteracy.
-14% of all Americans cannot read
- 32 million Adults in the US cannot read all
- 63% of prison inmates cannot read
- 774 million people around the world are illiterate
Isn't that striking? Think about how many people could have possibly been kept out of jail if they could read. Please donate to help us achieve our goal of ending illiteracy and at the same time many other social problems by donating to our fundraiser. All of the money will go to purchase new books for children who don't have any in their school.
