EVENT DATE: Mar 01, 2013
This past year I chose to make a life changing career move to leave my corporate home for the past 12 years at Dell Inc. to pursue a more personally fulfilling type of work.
Today I get the privilege of working with amazing young men and women ranging from 12-17 years in age. These kids come from inner-city areas of Houston and are faced with some life situations and academic obstacles that you and I were blessed to avoid for the most part.
It's with these circumstances and their surroundings of drugs, violence, gangs, and teenage pregnancy that HOPE has slowly been removing itself from their dreams and vocabulary. But I can attest with all my certainty that these children are capable, willing, and desiring the opportunity to become something better than generations before them. I've come to realize that they YEARN for someone to TRUST, CONFIDE IN, AND LOOK UP TO.
So that's what I've decided to commit this past year to. I'm working with a group of GODLY, HUMBLE, HARD WORKING people at a ministry called Pleasant Hill Baptist Ministries. I'm managing their after-school program where 28 students from Houston's Fifth Ward community consistently attend and are becoming Christian College Bound Leaders.
We provide tutoring, character development, Christian value training, and a safe place for these students to come and grow in Christ and with each other.
The work is HARD. It's sometimes DEFEATING. But EVERY DAY I get to spend with these kids is a day I'm reminded GOD IS WONDERFUL!
I'm shown every day that kids given the opportunity to do GOOD, TRY HARD, AND FEEL LOVED will do some amazing work to achieve those things.
So it's with a very humble heart of service that I'm creating this fundraising opportunity to help provide additional resources to these kids through our program.
If 2/3 of my Friends on my Facebook Page gave at least $20 this goal would be reached!
100% of your donations will go directly to program costs such as:
1. Operation costs
2. Cover costs for students to attend academic summer programs and camps
3. Technology for tutorial support i.e. laptops for online access to academic resources like Khan Academy, Brain Pop, SAT Prep cources, etc.
