BENEFITING: Boston Health Care For The Homeless Program Inc
As a member of Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program's Emerging Leaders Board, I challenge myself every year to better support the homeless in our community. As an ultramarathon runner, I challenge myself every year to run a little bit further than I've ever been. This year I've put the two together.
On October 22, 2017 I will be running the GHOST TRAIN Trail Race in Brookline, New Hampshire, with the goal to complete 60 miles.
Why did I choose this distance? It is a 15-mile loop, and four loops will take me 10 miles further than my furthest ultramarathon. At that distance every step is a challenge but I know I can do it.
Why would I do that!?! It's all about endurance, and supporting the cause at BHCHP. My race will end after 9 or 10 hours, but the struggle of someone who is sick and homeless lasts for days, weeks, months, sometimes a lifetime.
BHCHP has been serving this community for over 30 years, helping over 12,000 homeless men, women, and children receive comprehensive health care, from preventative dental care to cancer treatment. The donations I raise will help BHCHP deliver this care, and truly make the difference in the life of someone who is facing something even harder to endure. Because I am going the extra 10 miles, I will pledge a 110% match for all donations up to $500. Join me in supporting BHCHP!
