Mileage Tracker: 3,946
6350 Kilometers/ 3946 miles is the distance between my London flat and Clever’s home in Uganda. Last year I traveled to Ntwetwe, Uganda to meet Clever, a young boy that I sponsor through World Vision’s program. I had a brief glimpse into what his everyday life is like compared to mine. Although his community is rich in culture, generosity, and hope, they lack some basic needs that I enjoy in my surroundings and their education privileges are limited. I’ve decided to run/cycle 6350 km/ 3946 miles to bridge this gap.
Ntwetwe is located in central Uganda, a partially forested area with high levels of poverty which means it is not a popular location for teachers to be transferred to. There is lack of classrooms, toilets, staff houses.Teachers are still largely untrained, and farming families also regularly take their children out of school during planting and harvesting seasons. Our goal is to work toward ensuring that every child is regularly attending school and receiving qualify education in this small community.
I’m going to run or cycle this distance to raise 10000 pounds for World Vision’s Ntwetwe Education Project in Clever’s community which will :
-provide children who have walking difficulties with walking aid so they can attend school with their peers
- provide books and story books for 150 children in 2 primary schools
-train teachers to support children with special needs in this community
- train 30 children and 30 teachers to facilitate reading corners in 6 schools, allowing children to develop their literacy skills and grow to their full potential
-train 15 teachers from 3 schools to upgrade their skills.
That is roughly 22 km per day- about 155 per week in 10 months. You can help me by encouraging me every step of the way through your donations. Additionally, you can go a step further by helping me run/cycle part of those miles to raise funds! Every euro, dollar and pound you contribute will help me get a step closer to making this project for Clever’s home town a reality. If we achieve the goal I will travel to the project as a final part of the challenge! 6350 Kilometers/ 3946 miles to making this project a reality makes it seem like a distant hope- but I’m willing to bet it’s not impossible! I am up for the challenge. I hope you will join me in the journey.
