BENEFITING: Jose Limon Dance Foundation
Take part in the development of a new project of the Limón Dance Company. This project will consist in a major commission pairing world renowned Cuban composer/performer Paquito D’Rivera and Brazilian choreographer Rodrigo Pederneiras as part of the company’s 65th anniversary celebration in 2011/12. This will be Paquito's first ever dance commission and Rodrigo's first commission for a US Dance Company. The preview performance will take place at the Tilles Center in Long Island City on January 22nd, 2012 and the premiere will take place at the Central Park Main Stage on June 30th and July 1, 2012 in New York City with live music!!.
The new commission will be a full-company work for the 13 dancers of the Limón Dance Company, approximately 35 minutes in length. Two rehearsal periods have been set aside for the development of the work; November 28th through December 23, 2011. The Company has cultivated new audiences, particularly within the Hispanic community thanks to strategic partnerships with leading cultural and community-based organizations. So we are looking forward to sharing this work to as broad a constituency as possible.
For the Limón Dance Company, this commission represents an opportunity to look anew at its legacy from a historical, cultural and aesthetic standpoint. The pairing of these two magnificent artists for a new creation with the Company will stretch the boundaries of what our legacy can be and hopefully be a challenge for our guest artists as well. Through the commission audiences will be able to look at how the traditions of Limón and Grupo Corpo, united by the extraordinary music of Paquito D’Rivera, whose music crosses all boundaries, can come together.
We are looking at 500 people to be part of this commission by making a $100 tax- deductible contribution to make this a reality!
