BENEFITING: CLEAN WATER MOVEMENT
EVENT DATE: Jun 15, 2013
Hi Everyone! This Saturday, June15, I am competing in my first half-ironman triathlon race! As in my marathon Nov. 2012, I am racing to raise money for CLEAN WATER MOVEMENT (that’s their sticker on my pointy bike helmet). Please consider a minimum donation of $10. I have set this up so your donation amount does not show.
Just how long is this thing, you ask? It is twice as long as triathlons I’ve done before - oof-da! The total is 70.3 miles: Swim 1.2 miles in 64 degree water, bike a hilly 56 miles, THEN run 13.1 miles (a half-marathon). What's Glenn’s potential here? Well, training has been my part-time job since the beginning of the year, so I’m ready. If I do everything right, a total time of 5:45 seems reasonable -- but perhaps I'll go beyond reason! The race starts and finishes at High Cliff State Park in Sherwood, WI (see details at the race website)
CLEAN WATER MOVEMENT is an organization that supports long-term, low-cost, low-tech and sustainable solutions to the global water crisis. Several of my friends from Ames have already been a part of a well-drilling team to Bolivia. I look forward to the time that I can go and help hand-drill a well that will supply fresh water to a small community (but note, this fundraiser is NOT for me… this time).
