Our non-profit organization, www.mseayouth.org has selected several at-risk teens to mentor, provide free Spanish, French, Italian, Cherokee, Swahili, German, and Hawaiin Saturday classes to. Our organization will begin teaching Saturday classes and taking the at-risk teens on field trips to art/history/science museums on January 22, 2011. We need to purchase text and workbooks, food (breakfast and lunch) for Saturday learning as well as gas/ admission fees etc. for local and state museums. I grew up very poor in a family that was devastated by family violence and severe medical and financial challenges. Through various youth programs, I was able to obtain a multicultural education/ travel around the world, learn different languages and win academic scholarships. Learning about other cultures and languages inspired me to become a History Professor and educator for poverty stricken neighborhoods in the U.S. My husband and I created 7 Steps to Positive Self Esteem to help at-risk teens thrive and survive to adulthood.
