Once again, inspired by our participation in Mighty Milers, a New York Road Runners youth program which gets our students to run a mile every gym class at the Park Slope Armory YMCA, we are once again running our Family Fitness Fun Run on January 28th to benefit the Park Slope Armory Y’s Annual Campaign!
Aside from providing us with a world-class facility for gym and track, the Park Slope Armory YMCA makes a difference in Brooklyn neighborhoods from Park Slope to Coney Island where more than 48,000 people—including more than 17,000 youth—are engaged in activities designed to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body. Between the Park Slope Armory YMCA, the Prospect Park YMCA and four offsite locations, the Y is a place for children to learn, grow and thrive, where kids and teens develop the skills and values that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.
The Annual Campaign helps provide funds for kids to take Y classes; go to Y camps; and get Y memberships who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it. In 2016, the Y gave away over $65,000 to summer campers so that they could have a fun and enriching experience; every child in the Lisa Beth Gerstman Special Needs Camp received at least 50% financial aid; they enrolled more than 500 children in their after school programs located in public schools throughout Brooklyn completely free of charge; and they had the ability to provide $65,000 financial assistance to hundreds of members in financial crisis. None of these amazing programs would be possible without the generous support of people like you!
To get everyone inspired, here is what your running and the funds that you raise can do....
- $350 sends a kid to camp!
- $250 provide one child 8-weeks of fun in the youth basketball league
- $150 provides one child the chance to learn the joys of running in Track Class
- $70 provides one week of ballet or theater classes for one child!
- $20 provides an early childhood art class for one child!
