Seven years ago when Lahser student Mary Pilibosian needed community service, her and her sisters Susie, Emilie and Maggie decided to start a small walk to raise awareness and money for brain cancer research. After Maggie had surgery at age 3 (and again last fall), the girls knew how lucky she was and wanted to give back. A few years later, the Grombala sisters, Colleen and Emily, joined forces after Emily was diagnosed with an ependymoma tumor at age 8. Seven years later Emily with her strong faith and courage is doing incredible! Together these six girls have raised over $100,000!
This year we are thrilled to host the 7th Annual Mind over Matter 5k walk/run. Money raised goes towards The Brain Tumor Fund which is now partnered with Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Education and Research Foundation. This is a non-profit organization that works to provide support to important science and clinical research. 100% of the Funds activities are dependent on the generosity of contributors like you. The Foundation is headed by Dr. Anthony Asher who will be speaking at the race this year! For information go to www.cnsafoundation.org.
This year we are privileged to dedicate the event to Mr. Douglas Esper who passed away on March 10th after a courageous battle. Mr. Esper was a wonderful family man, avid golfer, and lover of all things University of Michigan! He earned 2 bachelor's degrees from Michigan; one in Mathematics and one in Aeronautical Engineering. He spent 35 successful years with IBM. Please join us and his family this year!
