THE STORY:

Project Launch: January 2012
Duration: 18 month program, recurring each year.
Benefiting: Youths leaving foster care and offending institutes (Will be expanded later on to include a wider youth group)
Regions to Benefit: Essex County (Basildon, Thurrock and South-end Councils initially)
Greeneville, TN USA
St. Kitts/Nevis, West Indies

These youths, whether leaving care or leaving offending institutes, have a high probability of falling away and becoming social outcast. According to the Prince's Trust, approximately 8000 young people leave care more vulnerable than most. In a report published 18th March 2010 by the Ministry of Justice, it was shown that well over a third of juvenile offenders re-offended in England and Wales in 2008. In fact, the severity of these offences increased by 15.1% compared to 2007.
In a cohort of 44,837 offending juveniles, 51,084 offences were committed during just a 1 year follow-up gap.
Youths leaving foster care do no have the privilege of a backbone support of parents and family. They have to figure out their way in life pretty much on their own. Too many end up in a life of crime and violence just to make it.
7th Chance wants to support these youths, show them that they are valuable and turn them on a path to transform our world.
