Let me tell you how I raised $2000… Or rather how 55 7th graders raised it.  See more

Our Story: First, before I ask for more money, let me tell you how I raised $2000… Or rather how 55 7th graders raised it. I am teacher at a wonderful (public) middle school in Portland, OR. Last year my students engaged in an incredible unit on the effects of colonization in Africa and the agonizing long-term implications. My students created beautiful pieces of graffiti art that represent a message they wanted to share with the public and we held a gallery show (at a real gallery). These students chose to give the money to an organization that would allow for more access to clean water (a basic right, they understood all deserve).

So there it is… And now, even more amazingly, the money they raised is doubled! Please join me in supporting this cause, so important to my students and I. If you want to help me raise more money it will be doubled, I will increase my chance of going to Rwanda (coincidently, a life-long dream), and you will know that you contributed to an incredibly worthy cause.

Here are the basics: Water For People works to build a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation, and where no one suffers or dies from a water- or sanitation-related disease. This is their vision.
To one in seven people worldwide, getting water is backbreaking, life-threatening work. And drinking that water will likely make them sick, or die.

It’s simple: Be part of the Donate to Drink $2 Million Challenge. Several donors have pledged $1 million and challenged Water For People to raise another $1 million. From September 1 until October 31, 2011, your impact will be doubled.

Imagine the possibilities. Your gift of $25 has the power of $50. A gift of $100 has the power of $200! The party is growing but Water For People and I need YOU for it to be complete!
Plus there are great gifts!
• $25 gets you a bracelet made in Rwanda.
• $100 earns a stainless steel water bottle from Marmot Mountain.
• Or become a fundraiser yourself (click the black box “Fundraise for this Event” at and raise at least $1000 for a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to join a World Water Corps volunteer expedition to Rwanda in 2012! Every $1000 raised earns you another entry. (Hint hint: This is my goal too!)

Before your next drink of water, make sure the people who need safe water and sanitation get it, too.
