BENEFITING: Big City Mountaineers
EVENT DATE: Sep 06, 2017
DAYS TO GO: 22
This year a great group of people at our REI Rancho Cucamonga store are competing in the 8000 Meter Challenge. This is a team event where each individual tries to hike/run three of the largest peaks in Southern California all within one day and points are tallied to get a point average for the team. We are hoping that as a group, we are all able to complete all three peaks which start in this order- Mt. Baldy (San Antonio peak) 10,064 feet 10.2 miles, San Gorgonio Peak 11,502 feet 18.4 miles, and San Jacinto Peak 10,804 feet 12 miles.
This is a great opportunity for us to raise $15,000 for an organization called Big City Mountaineers. BCM transforms the lives of under-served youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions that instill critical life skills. They partner with community-based youth organizations and caring volunteers who act as mentors in the field to help young people realize their potential. Their curriculum improves self-esteem, responsibility, decision-making abilities and communication skills in close to 1,000 youth annually. By Donating, you are adding points to our team average and making a big difference in a youth's life. We have been training hard, getting strong, and want to do our best to bring home the 1st place trophy for our team. We hope that you are able to donate what you can to help us reach our goal. Thank you!
