On October 28th, 826LA is kicking off our inaugural 0.826 mile marathon at the newly unveiled 34-acre Los Angeles State Historic Park on the edge of Downtown L.A. This is a community fundraiser to help keep our doors open to over 9,000 local students for another year. But because we’re 826LA, we’re going to do things a little differently.
Since running a 26-mile marathon is ever-so-slightly unrealistic for us at 826LA, we’re presenting the Half Half Half Half Half Marathon. Runners and ramblers of all ages are invited to dust off your kicks, don a costume, and stroll, dance, skip, or twirl your way to the finish line in support of creative and expository writing skills!
Be forewarned: our 0.826 mile marathon track may seem undersized, but it will be filled with mammoth checkpoint challenges along the way. The more money your team raises, the more challenges you can bypass or pass along to your competitors to slow them down.
Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraising team, top individual fundraiser, and the cleverest costumes on the track. It’s not necessarily about who wins this marathon, it’s about who can cross our finish line in style.
Your hard-won efforts will be celebrated all afternoon long with KCRW DJ Marion Hodges, prizes, games, drinks, snacks, and an 826LA Beer Garden sponsored by Three Weavers Brewing Company where we can all kick up our well-worn heels together.
