On October 28th, 826LA is kicking off our inaugural 0.826 mile marathon at the newly unveiled 34-acre Los Angeles State Historic Park on the edge of Downtown L.A. This is a community fundraiser to help keep our doors open to over 9,000 local students for another year. But because we’re 826LA, we’re going to do things a little differently.
Since running a 26-mile marathon is ever-so-slightly unrealistic for us at 826LA, we’re presenting the Half Half Half Half Half Marathon. Runners and ramblers of all ages are invited to dust off your kicks, don a costume, and stroll, dance, skip, or twirl your way to the finish line in support of creative and expository writing skills!
Be forewarned: our 0.826 mile marathon track may seem undersized, but it will be filled with mammoth checkpoint challenges along the way. The more money your team raises, the more challenges you can bypass or pass along to your competitors to slow them down.
Mini - Marathon Money
Each individual who raises $500 + gets an extra spin on the It's Your Future Spinning Wheel OR Travel Back In Time to The Starting Line Pass to slow down your competitors.
Each individual who raises $826 + gets a free Time Travel Stainless Steel Water Bottle from the Time Travel Mart. Come in the store to collect before the race!
Each team that raises $1000 +skips a challenge on the course!
Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraising team, top individual fundraiser, first three teams to cross the finish line, and the cleverest costumes on the track! Raise a minimum of $100 (per person) to be eligible for prizes.
Your hard-won efforts will be celebrated all afternoon long with KCRW DJ Marion Hodges, prizes, games, drinks, snacks, and a free 826LA Beer Garden sponsored by Three Weavers Brewing Company where we can all kick up our well-worn heels together.
