Help me raise $5,000 by 12/1 to support 826NYC!
Please join #GivingTuesday and make your gift to 826NYC by midnight on Tuesday, December 1st. I have set a goal to raise $5,000 in support of 50 FREE CLASS FIELD TRIPS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NYC.
826NYC serves 2,000+ under-resourced NYC public school students with free one-on-one tutoring and writing workshops. It works with over 250 dynamic volunteers, 75 passionate teachers, and 75 progressive schools.
Great leaps in learning can happen when trained tutors work one-on-one with students but don't just take it from me. Listen to what our students, parents, teachers and volunteers are saying:
- “[826NYC is important to me] because it helps me with my homework. I see a lot of cool stuff. They really do help. I can write my own story. And it can just be from me and not from anyone else.” - Anisa, Student
"Seeing a fellow student as a published author, and having a poem he could so deeply connect to was an invaluable teaching opportunity, available only because of our partnership with 826NYC." - Jaime Guarnaccia, Teacher, Bronx Leadership Academy II
"I constantly get to witness acts of brazen and beautiful heroism against the insidious forces of anti-creativity. This year in field trips, I saw elementary school superheroes venture fearlessly through every corner of their imaginations--writing heart-racing stories about demented time-traveling chickens, jewel-encrusted zombies, and revolutionary bowls of soup." -Rose Connelly, 826NYC Volunteer
Some other interesting tid bits:
- 80% of our after-school tutoring & writing students qualify for free or reduced price meals
- 57% of our after-school tutoring & writing students come from a home where English is not the first language
- There is almost a 2x jump in the percentage of students that finish their homework versus without 826
