Help 88bikes Deliver 500 Moments of Happy!
Happiness is a human need.
How happy were when you got your very first bike? Were you unstoppable and free? Did you feel like the luckiest kid on earth?
What if you could feel that all over again today?
Here's how to feel like a kid again, by giving an impoverished child the chance to feel it too. Please help me support the mission of 88bikes to deliver the “Moment of Happy” to 500 children awaiting bikes that have been donated and allocated for them.
So, what is 88Bikes.org? What is a “Moment of Happy”?
88Bikes is an incredible organization founded by my dear friend Dan Austin to deliver bikes to children in orphanages. So far over 2,000 bikes have been delivered to children in need both domestically and abroad.
They work on the simple premise that we can make a huge impact in the lives of children; children who have survived poverty, war, famine, disease and basically have no one and nothing; by providing both JOY and a sustainable form of transportation in areas where both can be hard to come by.
The "Moment of Happy" is the term coined by Dan to describe the moment when the bikes are delivered and the ensuing wild, joyous, happy chaos of the children's excitement as they receive their bikes!
As part of the Villages 2011 campaign, 88Bikes recently completed their donation on Navajo Nation. They still have 300 bikes donated through this campaign that are awaiting distribution to orphans in Mozambique and an additional 200 for orphans in Nepal. Because they use 100% of the donations for bikes and the on-going maintenance of the bikes, they do not pay themselves a dime, rely totally on volunteers, and donations/grants to their endowment to execute delivery of the bikes.
In order to execute the donation of these bikes, money must be raised through the endowment fund to pay for travel, supplies and related expenses. Once this happens 88Bikes volunteers will be able to deliver the bikes directly to hundreds of lucky kids.
PLEASE help me achieve my goal of raising $4,000 for the 88bikes endowment fund to deliver these 300 bikes in Mozambique and 200 in Nepal. 88Bikes will lead a bike ride with all the orphans with the help of the orphanage and the local government! And you can be a part of it! Every donor will receive photos and video links, as well as a signed copy of Dan’s book “True Fans”.
The following quote sums up the passion that I feel for 88bikes and the moments of happy that they deliver to children around the world:
Norwegian Speed Skater Johann Olav Koss had campaigned for donations of sporting equipment for the children of Eritrea and arrived with almost 13 tons of donated goods to deliver. As Koss was being introduced to President Isaias Afewerki of Eritrea, he initially tried to apologize because the previous day a reporter had ripped him to shreds calling him a fool as these children were starving and he's taking them sporting equipment. President Afewerki’s response to Koss’ attempted apology -->
This is the greatest gift we have ever received. This is the first time we've been made to feel like persons and not just things to be kept alive.
Your generous donations will be sent directly to 88Bikes.org and you will receive a tax deductible receipt from the organization. Check back here to see how I'm doing in terms of reaching my $4,000 goal!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me, 88Bikes and children everywhere!
Love you! Ashley
