BENEFITING: ALABAMA KIWANIS FOUNDATION INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 29, 2016
I am a volunteer for the 9th Annual Run to Read 8k/5k race and 1.5 mile walk benefiting Jean Dean RIF (Reading is Fundamental). I have been volunteering with Jean Dean RIF for about 10 years.
Jean Dean RIF has been distributing books to at risk preschool children in Alabama since 1993. With the help of local Kiwanis Clubs and other civic organizations children in every county in Alabama receive three books each year. Although the books are free to the children, each book costs approximately $3 to purchase and distribute.
I became involved in this charity through my friendship with the program Director. As I saw my sons become involved with volunteering via their high school and college service organizations, I realized I could help, too. And remembering how they experienced the joy of reading when they were small, and recognizing that their achievements are directly attributable to their reading success, I decided I to help other children in Alabama.
For several years I have helped the Run to Read by volunteering as race registration committee leader. Including this event and another RIF fundraiser, I volunteer over 120 hours each year to this cause. Please consider supporting my efforts and this worthy cause by making a donation on my behalf. The donation you make to the Alabama Kiwanis Foundation/Jean Dean RIF will go directly to the purchase and expenses of shipping new books to Head Start children throughout the state of Alabama.

Thank you for your help.
