BENEFITING: The ALS Association Western Pennsylvania Chapter
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
I'm running 26 miles on May 7, 2017 to raise money in honor of my Dad, George Simonson, who was diagnosed with ALS in March 2013. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Your generous donation will go to the ALS Association.
My father is amazing...nothing shakes his spirit. I'm running this marathon again to celebrate him. My Dad is thankful for every day. He counts his blessings and faces all things with a kind heart and a sense of humor. He inspires me, gives me hope when all seems lost, and reminds me to stop and appreciate the little things in life. With each step I take while training and on race day, I'll be thinking of him. I need your help to reach my goal of raising $4,000.
I ran the Pittsburgh Marathon in 2011 and 2015, so yes, I know what I'm getting into. Should I have picked a city with less hills, probably. But only the City of Steel ensures my family will be there to cheer me on when I'm feeling pumped and later when I'm feeling the pain. I'll be ready...
A few words about the video & photos...

PHOTO 3: My Dad decided to join the race in 2011. I was certain I would be disqualified and kicked off the course. He has slowed down physically, but his witty sense of humor is as sharp as ever.
PHOTO 4: Wee me helping my Dad build a swing set. There is no one in the world as patient as my father.
