Dave Glass and I met as Pararescuemen (PJ’s) from different teams during rescue and recovery operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. We would later become teammates at the 48th Rescue Squadron where we would support NASA, POTUS, OIF, and OEF operations. In 2009, Dave joined the Reserves and became a full-time student on his way to becoming a medical doctor. During this time, I became an instructor at the PJ Selection Course and completed my undergraduate work at night and weekends. I decided to follow in Dave’s footsteps and join the 306th Rescue Squadron while I also attended medical school.
Dave is currently an emergency medicine resident physician at the University of New Mexico and serves as the team physician for our Reserve PJ team. I graduate medical school this May and will pursue a residency in dermatology. Upon graduation I plan to join Dave as a fellow team doctor for the 306th. Our ultimate goal is to continue to contribute to the Pararescue community for many years to come.
Our journey to medicine was never planned; our passion for medicine was paved through our various missions both overseas and abroad. Both of our families have scarified so much to support us through our medical education. Dave and I were both extremely fortunate to be selected as Pat Tillman Military Scholars, which provided our families with immense financial and educational support; enabling us to afford medical school while also raising a family.
Every year the Pat Tillman foundation provides support to veterans, and veteran spouses across the country as they transition from military service to pursue careers in education, medicine, law, and other disciplines. Please support Dave and me as we team up for Pat's Run on April 22th to raise funds for the Pat Tillman Foundation and the Tillman Military Scholars program. Pat’s Run is the signature fundraising event for the Pat Tillman Foundation. Held annually in April at Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium, the event attracts over 35,000 participants, volunteers and spectators from across the country.
The Pat Tillman Foundation is carrying forward Pat’s legacy of service to others. To date, 460 Tillman Military Scholars at 100+ universities have been granted $14 million in scholarship support for their potential. Imagine their impact for our communities, our country and abroad. Every dollar you help us raise is not just a donation. It’s an investment in the future for veterans like Dave and me. Whether you choose to donate $25, $42, $50, or $100 - your donation is appreciated and makes a difference to the veterans and students who you support.
Thank you in advance for your consideration of this very important effort to support the service men and women like Pat who have dedicated their lives to protecting ours.
Please note, the Pat Tillman Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible.
